R. M. Hendrix is an American musician, designer, and artist who, per his Bandcamp page, is based in Iceland. His music wanders the land a bit, from dreampop to shoegaze to ambient electronica. No Signal was recorded during a live performance at Reykjavik’s Space Odyssey back in October 2024 and features Hendrix giving a primarily electronic performance. It does have just a touch of guitar, but no vocals, so it feels slightly outside the norm compared to his other work.

No Signal has an organic quality that transports me off my sofa and to… someplace else. Someplace dark, and damp… a small harbor perhaps, on a moonless night, the dim lights of the ever-so-tiny nearby town barely breaking through the low-hanging fog and providing little sense of safety or comfort. It doesn’t feel dangerous per se, not even foreboding… more a sense of heightened awareness as your mind begins to play tricks on you with the shadows and the black water slowly lapping against the pier. Certainly there’s nothing out there, watching me. That would be absurd. But… well, if there was, would I know? The B side ups the level of anxiety a bit, the sonics tightly vibrating, a sensation that works its way right into your bones and nervous system, like that subtle sense of anxiety when something doesn’t quite feel right but you just can’t put your finger on what it is..
You can stream and/or purchase a digital copy of No Signal at the Space Odyssey Bandcamp page HERE. Cassettes were very limitedand if you want one your best best is to reach out to Space Odyssey directly and perhaps they still have a few in stock.
