The Egyptian Lover is a gift from Ra.
The Egyptian Lover is sonic sexiness.
The Egyptian Lover is the 808 master.
For years, nay decades, I wandered through the desert Lover-less. Because I was ignorant of the possibilities life had to offer, this did not bother me. I simply went about my days only occasionally interacting with the 808, and even then not fully appreciating it. You can’t miss what you don’t know you’re missing, even if that thing was an 808-sized hole in my soul.
And then one day my friend Ingvar came to visit and stayed with us here in Seattle. And of course we went record shopping. So we stopped at Silver Platters down in Sodo, and he pulled a boxset off the wall. “You know this?” he asked. Sheepishly I had to admit that I did not. Ingvar nodded sagely. “I think you will love this,” he said, handing it to me. The box was black with a golden inlay of a pharaoh. What I didn’t know at the time is the pharaoh was in fact a guy named Greg Broussard. But Ingvar knew him by his true name. His nom-de-808. His alter(ed) ego. I speak of course of The Egyptian Lover.
I was hooked. I am hooked. As recently as last November Ingvar was once again turning me on to The Egyptian. We were lounging around his Reykjavik shop, Lucky Records. It wasn’t open yet, but he let us in, and he was spinning some 12″ records, including “The Lover”. He was rocking out. We were grooving. He picked up the tonearm. “Listen to that shit. He’s got a waterbed 50 feet long.” He spun it back and played the verse again. And Ingvar was right.
Well, my pad – it’s also sweet
It’ll blow your mind, it’s so unique
I’ve got the waterbed 50 feet long
With solid gold speakers, to hear my song
“That’s so fucking cool,” he said.
He was right. It was, and is, so fucking cool.

How may albums has the Lover put out? Who knows. The man seems to sweat out beats like it was nothing. And his latest effort, 1987, is no exception. Beats. Beats for days. Mainlining electro lightning bolts. Girl you got that jaw-droppin’ body…. I can do those things your lover can’t do… pulsing, thumping, grinding. Funky. Sexy. Bumping. 808.
The Egyptian Lover has bypassed the music industry, bringing his sexy jams straight to the people. You want some digital hotness? Check out his Bandcamp page HERE. But if you want the real shit, the vinyl, you gotta reach out to the Ra-inspired 808-wizard direct. Me? I just hit him up on Instagram, and a week later I had a signed copy of this 2xLP on colored vinyl. Like a boss. And you can too. So don’t wait. Do it. DO IT.
