This is yet another unofficial live album from our recent trip to New York City. I have a few other Sex Pistols unofficial releases, so I knew not to expect too much. And the sound quality is… well… not great. Flat, some distortion, vocals muddy and buried under the music. But there’s still a little something here… especially in the guitar riffs, a glimmer of the energy the Sex Pistols brought to the table.

Online details conflict about the source and location of this show. Most agree the set was played and recorded on December 23, 1977 during the “Never Mind the Bans Tour”, but I’ve seen different clubs and cities cited. The release itself doesn’t offer us any details. If the date is right, though, this would put the show in the Sid Vicious era, for what it’s worth.
Is Where Were You In ’77? worth buying? Only if you’re a Pistols’ superfan, probably. The audio is pretty marginal. But it’s still an important punk rock relic, a piece of history that gives us just a small taste of what was happening in the early-ish scene.
